PIONEER SCHOOL
This video is here for you to get a little feel for what kind of day we had! It was so much fun and the kids were exhausted afterwards. Enjoy!
Pumpkins
Pumpkin math and the pumpkin hunt was a great success! In pumpkin math students estimated weight, height, and circumference by comparing knowledge of other pumpkins weight. We also used pumpkins to discover descending and ascending order.
We had the pumpkin hunt yesterday and the students had a great time (we had a lot of fun hiding the pumpkins as well).
Today we will go on our field trip to Champoeg Park to learn about Pioneers. We will visit the Pioneer Mothers Cabin and the Newell House. Descriptions of both museums are below. Thanks in advance to the chaperones!
Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin
Experience life as it would have been for the early pioneers in a log cabin at the Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin. Learn about the earliest settlers, the Hudson's Bay Company, Wagons Westward and Pioneer Life. Experience life through hands on activities, kneading sour dough bread, carding wool and washing clothes as the pioneers would have done.
Newell House
Discover life as lived by one of Oregon's earliest legislators, Robert Newell. Learn about the beginnings of the Oregon Territory, Statehood and his life as a man of many firsts as told by interpreters in period dress. Learn about a catastrophic area wide flood that would change the lives of the residents of Champoeg forever. Through a scavenger hunt, learn about artifacts of the period and how they were used in every day life. Then learn about the making of a beeswax candle, make one and take it home with you as a remembrance of your experience at Newell House.

Field Trip
We wanted to remind you all that the Dragons and Vikings class will be going on a field trip this Friday the 29th to Champoeg Park for Pioneer School. Your child can dress up as a pioneer, and wear their pioneer clothes to school.
Boys can wear rolled up jeans, plaid or long sleeved button shirt, and a hat.
Girls can wear long skirts or dresses, apron, shawl, bonnet, or scarf.
Please send your child with a "pioneer" lunch; no warmups, a sandwich, drink, fresh fruit, and vegetables.
Lastly, please make sure your child is at the school by 8:00 and ready to go!
Thank you for your help!
